Hiša hospica is an impatient hospice unit that offers hospice palliative care to those who have been diagnosed with a disease in it’s terminal phase. Our interdisciplinary team (doctor, nurses, social worker, spiritual guide, housekeeper, etc.) takes care not just of individuals’ health needs, but also his/her and psycho-social ones. Death is much more than just a physical process because people are social beings. We work by the principle that social death should not overtake the individual’s physical death. Therefore, our unit of care consists not just of a patient, but a patient plus his/her family and friends. Also, death is a process, not just an event in a particular human life. Death is not a personal defeat or medicine’s failure, it’s a natural part of life. Hiša hospica differs from homes for the elderly by the fact that hospices: - offer short-term accommodation; - are completely free of charge; - encourage the family members to be present at all phases of dying and after death; - have only 12 single-bed rooms. Our moto is: Add life to your days not days to your life.
