Vanema is rated 3 out of 5 in the category powered by octaspring aerospace technology.. Read and write reviews about Vanema. Vanema is an exclusive Octaspring technology developer for the aviation industry. Established in 2016 by entrepreneur Sandi Cesko, the founder of Studio Moderna and other ventures. Vanema, building on Studio Moderna’s more than fifteen years of experience producing high-end mattresses and other sleep products, gathered a team of experts to apply the Octaspring® technology in aircraft seating. Octaspring® is a key enabling technology that elevates passenger comfort, while at the same time shaving off up to 30% of the seat cushion’s weight. The innovative solution uses individually placed, eight-sided foam springs that move 3-dimensionally and evenly distribute body weight across the entire seat surface, thereby reducing the occurrence of pressure points. The springs can be manufactured in varying firmness, allowing for the creation of unique zones that produce a truly ergonomic experience without additional costs. Each individual Octaspring® foam spring uses roughly half of the weight of equivalent foam block, resulting up to 30% weight saving in finished seat cushion (up to 150 g in Economy and up to 800 g in Business Class seats). Newly designed seat cushions can achieve higher returns when the technology is integrated during initial seat design. Older model seat cushions are often less optimized, resulting in even higher weight savings when refurbished with Octaspring® technology. Our calculations have found that weight savings through Octaspring® technology can reduce fuel consumption and depending on aircraft model and cabin layout Octaspring® can save on fuel up to US$5000/aircraft/year on long haul routes in addition to cutting CO2 emissions. Octaspring was first introduced in bedding products by Studio Moderna in 2011. Octaspring® mattresses and pillows are now available in 30 countries under the brand names Dormeo and Dormeo Octaspring®. As experts in comfort, Vanema d.o.o. is bringing its know-how to aerospace to create solutions with airlines and seat manufacturers that will improve the passenger experience in all cabin classes. The Octaspring technology has been granted funds from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme under grant agreement No 757130 - the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme that finances breakthroughs, discoveries and world-firsts by taking great ideas from the lab to the market. The Grant Agreement with the European Commission has already been signed and the project implementation is ongoing.
